THE MILKMAID AND HER PAIL
A farmer's daughter had been out to milk the cows. Now she was walking back to the dairy with a pail of milk on her head. As she walked along, she began to daydream.
"The milk in this pail will give me cream," she thought. "I'll make that cream into butter and take it to market to sell. With the money I'll buy lots of eggs. The eggs will hatch into chickens, and soon I'll have a great big yard full of them. Then I'll sell some of my chickens, and with that money I'll buy myself a new dress. I'll wear it to the fair, and all the young men will admire it and want to talk to me. But I'll just toss my head and walk away!"
She forgot all about the pail. She tossed her head, just like she was imagining. Down went the pail! All the milk spilled on the ground. And just like that, all her lovely daydreams were gone.
Don't get excited about something before it has really happened.
