THE LION AND THE MOUSE

A Lion was sleeping in his home. A Mouse ran right across his face and woke him up. The Lion got angry. He grabbed the Mouse with his paw and was about to kill it. The Mouse was very scared. "Please let me go," it cried. "One day I will repay you for your kindness." The Lion thought it was so funny that such a tiny creature could ever help him. He laughed out loud and let the Mouse go.

But the Mouse's chance did come. One day the Lion got all tangled up in a net that some hunters had laid out to catch animals. The Mouse heard him roaring with anger and knew just who it was. It ran straight to the spot. Right away it started chewing through the ropes with its teeth. Before long, the Lion was free.

"There!" said the Mouse. "You laughed at me when I promised to repay you. But now you see — even a Mouse can help a Lion."
