THE HARE AND THE TORTOISE

A Hare was making fun of a Tortoise one day for being so slow. "Wait a bit," said the Tortoise. "I'll race you, and I'll bet that I win." "Oh, well," said the Hare, who thought that was very funny, "let's try and see." They agreed that the Fox would pick the course and decide who won.

When the time came, both of them set off together. But the Hare got so far ahead so fast that he thought he might as well take a rest. So he lay down and fell fast asleep.

Meanwhile, the Tortoise kept on walking. One step, then another, then another. And in time, he reached the finish.

At last the Hare woke up with a start. He ran as fast as he could. But when he got there, the Tortoise had already won the race.

Slow and steady wins the race.
